Sydney Harbour Bridge Museum

Accessibility

At the BridgeMuseum, we are committed to making our experience as inclusive and accessible as possible. As with many heritage locations, there are some constraints unique to our site - however, we’re here to help you plan your visit and provide personalised assistance.

Heritage Site Considerations

Accessibility
The BridgeMuseum is housed inside the historic South‑East Pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. As the Pylon was completed in the 1930s, some structural elements cannot be altered.

To enter and explore the Pylon:
  • Visitors walk along an external footpath to reach the entrance.
  • There are 200 stairs throughout the experience, from the entry level up through the exhibition spaces to the SkyHouse and back down again.
  • As a result, wheelchair and lift access are not available inside the Pylon.
We understand this may limit access for some visitors and we’re genuinely sorry for that. If you or someone in your group would benefit from alternative ways to engage with aspects of the experience, our team is always happy to help and talk through options.

Sensory Considerations

The BridgeMuseum experience includes a mix of spaces such as enclosed stairways, exhibition rooms with AV content, areas with varying light levels and an outdoor lookout with natural wind exposure. Guests with sensory sensitivities (visual, auditory, vestibular or environmental) may find the following helpful:

  • Bringing your own personal noise‑reducing headphones, if these support your comfort
  • Taking short breaks between floors
  • Visiting during quieter times (our team can guide you on the best windows)

There is one exhibition that includes a large-scale surround projection with audio and immersive visuals. The experience may not be suitable for people with photosensitive epilepsy, vertigo, or sensory sensitivities. The experience runs for approximately 6 minutes, and the content is suitable for all ages. If you have any concerns or would like to understand the experience in more detail before visiting, our team members are available to help.

We’re here to help make your visit comfortable, so please feel free to speak with our team at any point.

Language Support During Your Visit

To help you enjoy the BridgeMuseum in your preferred language, we offer a translation app available on the day of your visit. By scanning QR codes located throughout the experience, you can access translated content in Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, German, and French using your own smartphone. For the best experience, it is recommended to bring your own headphones.

If you need any assistance accessing the app, our team will be happy to help on the day.

FAQs

BridgeMuseum is proud to be part of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program.

Visitors who choose to wear a Sunflower lanyard can discreetly signal that they may need a little extra time, support or understanding during their visit.

Our team is trained to recognise the Sunflower and can offer:
  • Additional explanations or guidance
  • More time to move through spaces
  • Sensory considerations where possible
You’re welcome to bring your own Sunflower lanyard or request one from our team when you arrive (subject to availability). We’re here to help make your visit as comfortable as possible.

BridgeMuseum is designed as a highly visual experience, with a strong focus on interactive and multimedia storytelling.

To support visitors who are Deaf or hard of hearing, we offer a self‑guided experience via visitors’ own mobile devices, which has been certified as meeting relevant accessibility requirements. The app will provide audio‑free access to exhibition content through your personal device. This provides an alternative to traditional hearing‑augmentation systems and helps ensure key content is accessible in a format that suits a wide range of needs.

If you use specific hearing‑assistance technology, we encourage you to reach out to us before your visit so we can advise on compatibility and the support available. We’re here to help make your experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
Accredited assistance animals are welcome in areas permitted under heritage and safety guidelines. The BridgeMuseum includes metal stairs, so some sections may be challenging for animals to navigate.

If you’re planning a visit with an assistance animal, please get in touch with our team beforehand. We’re happy to talk through the space and help assess what will work best for you and your animal.
Every visitor’s needs are unique, and we’re here to help. If you have specific requirements related to mobility, sensory needs, neurodiversity, visual or hearing access, or general assistance, please reach out to our team before you visit. We’ll do our best to make your time at BridgeMuseum comfortable and enjoyable.
